DON'T YOU DARE

I watched an old movie called “AMISTAD” some days ago and even though I had seen the movie before, it all seemed fresh and very emotional to me. Honestly, I was not even sure if it was the kind of movie that should be shown at a time where it seems like slavery never left America.
Regardless of what was declared or what was agreed, slavery is still an essential part of the issues we are facing today. One might think that I am referring to physical slavery alone but the truth is that mental slavery is even more prevalent.

As I watched the movie, I winced every time the black men were referred to as "goods". It was so painful to hear that word and see the inhumane treatment meted out to the salves.
I shook my head each time someone came with proof of ownership of human beings.
It hurt each time I saw a black man being pulled  by the chain on his neck, hands and feet to move him from one place to the other. Treated like they are worse than animals.

Seeing that this slavery and the mentality behind it is still the same today (even though not with physical chains), it does not come as a surprise to me that some who are authorized to carry guns have chosen to gun down black men whether they are dangerous or not.

The lack of regard for human life is no different from the way those slaves on the TECORA ship were tossed out, to drown just because the traders felt there were too many of them.

This kind of mentality does not only apply to some who are supposed to protect and serve, but also to some who look shocked when they hear me speaking better English than they do, just because of the color of my skin.
It applies to those who see me driving a nice car, living in their neighborhood and stare at me as if to say "how dare you make enough money to live among us". That part is funny though because when I see them staring at me, I just smile and wave. Oh how they hate that. But what they don't realize is that they have become my driving force to really succeed.

Opportunities are hardly given to people of color so I always say "if you can't seize every opportunity then create your opportunities because you can if you want to".
When I spoke about this some time ago, another African brother asked me why I was so passionate about the killing of the African American men. He was wondering why I spoke about it so much when I was AFRICAN.
"What is your business Stella?" He said to me and I told him that my prayer was for God to grant him WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING.
Even though he found that insulting, I really didn't care at all.

My question is this, "before you open your mouth to speak with your accent, when a racist cop sees you, what do you think he sees?".
He sees just another black man regardless of where you are from.
Whether you speak with a Haitian or African accent, the color of your skin is Black so don’t ever think that such things will never happen to you.
How can you stand by and watch the next generation grow in fear and mental slavery?

So please, don't you dare tell me to stop talking about this!
Don't you dare tell me to stop looking for a solution!
Don't you dare tell me it's not my business!
Don't you dare tell me not to preach peace and unity!
Don't you dare tell me not to advice our young black men to pursue their education and avoid unnecessary movement at night!
Don't you dare tell me not to explain to our black boys why they should not have their wallets in their back pockets when they are driving!
Don't you dare tell me I should not remind the people of color that they are free!

In all of this, there is only one solution:

This great nation has to go back to God.
They need to bring prayers back into the schools. We need love and unity which can only come from the one who is love (God).

The black communities need better education and better public schools in their neighborhoods.
These children need mentors who care about their after school activities.

Community policing is extremely crucial.
Get cops to take charge of heir own neighborhoods where they know the children and their families.

Organize community and law enforcement events that would encourage the officers of the law and people in the community to get along and have fun.

Elect the younger boys to be in charge of their communities, that way instead of being in gangs, they have a sense of responsibility because they are accountable to the law.

Have the youths organize their own town hall meetings where they can identify their issues and how best they think it can be handled; with their community police in attendance.

There are a lot of things that can be done to curb these excessive murders but we only need to start with one and take it from there.

God bless America, God bless Africa and God bless the World.

  3. God bless you always Stella.Racism is still very much alive in this nation though some people try to deny it.My heart bleeds when our black brothers and sisters are killed.Worst still I read an article Frederick Douglass wrote, tears ran down my face and my daughter(8yrs)burst into tears too.Human beings were equated to animals and considered properties to their masters. This is heart breaking each time I think of it and still see the inhumane treating existing in our days. It's time for us to turn back to our creator the Almighty God and seek His face,if not the worst is yet to come. This is not just for the African Americans,so long as the color of our skin is black,we are in the same situation as them.God help us,we can't do this on ou own.
