Love & Happiness

I was again reading one of my favourite books titled What I Know For Sure written by Oprah Winfrey; someone I still look up to and admire despite all that has been said about her religion. Fact is, she has more encouraging things to say compared to all the people who claim to be HOLY.
There is a quote in the book that touches me every time I read it so I have decided to share it with you.

“Happiness is never something you get from other people. The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you give.”

She added that: “For a long time, whenever I would say or do something that went against my better self, I would try to justify it that way. What I didn’t understand is that all of your actions, both good and bad, come back to you and most often not from the people you are acting toward.”
For every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction. In THE COLOR PURPLE, the character Celie explained it to Mister: “Everything you try to do to me, already done to you.”

Your actions revolve around you as surely as the earth revolves around the sun. The more conscious I became of this, the more quickly my actions came back.
Today I try to do well and be well with everyone I reach or encounter. I make sure I use my life for that which can be goodwill. Yeah, this has brought me great wealth. More importantly, it has fortified me spiritually and emotionally.

When people say they are looking for happiness, I ask, ‘What are you giving to the world?’
I’ll never forget this couple who appeared on my show. The wife couldn’t understand why their relationship had broken down. She kept saying, “He used to make me so happy, He doesn’t make me happy anymore.”

What she couldn’t see was that she was the cause of her own effect. Happiness is never something you get from other people. The happiness you feel is in direct proportion to the love you are able to give.
If you think something is missing in your life or you’re not getting what you deserve, remember that there’s no Yellow Brick Road. You lead life; it doesn’t lead you.

See what comes into your life when you spend extra time with your children. Let go of your anger with your boss or your co-worker and see what gets returned. Be loving to yourself and others and see that love reciprocated.
This rule works every time, whether or not you are aware of it. It occurs in little things, big things, and the biggest things."
This is the part I want you to read and meditate on. Many people blame other people, things or situations for their unhappiness but they don’t realize that the truth of the matter is that they are really unhappy because they have decided to give that problem front seat in their lives.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that in life when some certain things come your way you are not allowed to have a moment of sober reflection and think about them. No, that’s perfectly fine but then letting them take total control of your life is an entirely different ball game.
Love yourself, love others around you and I can bet you that you will be happier with yourself, your life, those around you, the things you do and so much more.

She ended this part with a very strong message that I would use as my quote for today.

Quote: What you’re thinking, what you’re saying, what you’re doing, is having an impact on you and the people around you right now —Oprah Winfrey.

My own personal quote is: No man on earth can give you the happiness you desire. Only God can do that, so stop expecting happiness from someone else. Be fulfilled and satisfied with who you are, love yourself, your neighbour and love God.

  1. This is inspiring and sounds like the book of Rhonda Byrne "The secret"
Oprah is a very strong and inspiring woman who achieve alot in her life! But I must confess that you too is a inspiring woman to me, I like the way you keep fighting for the right things! You use your popularity to draw attention to abuses in the country/world! This make me to respect you alot! Keep on fighting for the rights of others!

    Stay blessed!

  2. Happiness is relative, and just as you said, NOBODY can make you happy...it all lies with-in you. I have learnt to do things that gives me joy without expecting it from others... that is why am an introvert..ehhehe.
Giving is part of the things that makes me happy, likewise, doing chores that gives me pleasure like cleaning, organising, reading and writing.
GOD is Love, hence gives us joy as a river that flows constantly.
    Another insightful-post. weldone.
